Reykyavik has many coffeeshops (coffee as in coffee, not like pot as in Amsterdam) .. this coffeeshop was on the first floor of a house in Reykyavík .. i forgot the name but next to coffee they served homemade lambsoup and pies .. there was a goldfish bowl with a tag that said do not feed the gold fish Nana and Vincent .. there was another tag that said .. in memoriam Vincent

Iceland senses sulferish .. the drinkwater in Reykyavik has a sulfide taste .. around the hot pods, springs, lakes and geisers the air has that peculiar odor

i guess its not hard to get used to .. in the beginning i thought "did somebody forget the eggs" but after a while i noticed i started to appreciate the sweet tone to it .. i think when youre born and raised at the place you dont mention it at all

i can imagine icelanders coming to Amsterdam must have a harder time being absorbed by the invisible clouds of harsh burned fosile gasses over here

I had to think about Malcolm Lowry's Under the Volcano when i saw this Shell truck refilling a servicestations petrol tank

hell .. hell .. hell
.. after Lowry lost the manuscript to Under the Volcano in the fire at his shack at Dollarton, he was left that night with nothing to do but to stare disconsolately across the Fraser River at the Shell Oil refinery on the other side of the water. But the letter S had burnt out from the flashing giant Shell sign. So that all Lowry could see flashing at him in the darkness from across the river were the repeating red letters: 'hell' ... Why Shell
An interesting question is what a Shell truck is doing on Iceland. Providing petrol for cars and motors of course. But doesnt that sound odd considering that Iceland is in a way one big energy plant?

Self providing?
Iceland is fully self providing in household and business needs for electricity. Its abundance of energy resources is even positioning Iceland as one the biggest aluminium smelters in the world. But ai .. cars dont ride on hydrogeothermal electricity (yet) .. so they need foreign companies to provide the oil to make the motor run.

i heard the first icelanders were so pleased with the relatively mild climate and green furbishing of their new country that they wanted to keep the place to themselves and gave it a chilling name to keep strangers away: Iceland

the icey island of Greenland instead got a more compelling name to attract strangers to the wilderness .. .. .. must consider a holiday there to find out whats true about that ;)
